Bettie Lou Patterson Hill was born June 30, 1935, to Garland William Henry Patterson and Elva May Beasley Patterson at Raymondville, Mo. She passed on Sept. 16, 2019, at Houston House at the age of 84 years old after a two-year battle with Stage IV Colon Cancer.
Bettie married Wilmer Ross Hill on July 28, 1951, in Salem, Ark. To this marriage three children were born, Deborah Jean Hill Southern, Larry Ross Hill and Rhonda Sue Hill Talbott.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilmer; sisters, Mildred Labbee, Wanda Fox, Melba June Hayes and Virginia Bissett; brothers, Arthur and Jimmy Patterson; grandson, Jerrid Ross Hill; and great great-granddaughter, Brynlee Jones.
Bettie is survived by two sisters, Carol Lomax, and Bonnie (Bill) Price of Licking; brothers-in-law, Harold (Rita) Hill of St. Louis, Carl (Jane) Hill of Licking, and Sonny Smith of Bucyrus; her children, Deborah Jean Southern (Mark), of Licking; Larry Ross (Diana) Hill and Rhonda (Vernon) Talbott of Houston; grandsons, Brad (Sunni) Cole of Nixa, Jeff (Tammy) Talbott of Houston, Spencer (Sandy) Talbott of St. Louis and John Hill of Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Cole of Springfield, Maddy and Abby Cole of Licking, Brailey Cole of Nixa, Riley and Blake Talbott of Houston, Parker Talbott of St. Louis, and Jessica Rader of Mountain Grove; great-great-grandsons, Cameron and Bentley Rader of Mountain Grove; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bettie accomplished a great deal in her life. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Early years in her life she worked in Retail, Candy Factory, Shoe Factory and Rawlings Ball Factory. After moving to St. Louis for Wilmer’s job in the late 50s, she worked at Community Federal Bank and went to Cosmetology School and then became an Instructor at the School. Moving back to Raymondville for Wilmer’s health, Bettie opened up her own Beauty Shop in 1966 and ran it for 20 years until she got breast cancer at the age of 53. She got her Realtor/Broker license in 1979 and worked part time at that until 1987 and started selling Real Estate full time for 20 years until she had another bout with cancer and lost her right kidney and left side of her thyroid at the age of 73 years.
She served her community by being very active in the Raymondville PTA as a member and President for years. She was the first woman Mayor of the Village of Raymondville for 10 years. She held positions on the Raymondville Booster Club, Blue Haven Club and Raymondville Fire Department. She served four years as President of the National Hairdressers & Cosmetology Association. She served as Chairman for the Texas County Democrat Party for six years, Vice-Chair of the 16th Senatorial District for two years and Vice-Chair of the 4th Congressional District for four years. She was a member of the Houston Chamber of Commerce for years and was Vice President for two terms. She served as Vice Chair of the Raymondville Senior Citizens Board. She was a life member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and held many offices including Commander. She was also a member of the DAV and American Legion and held offices in both organizations.
She enjoyed her life with family and friends. She loved following her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren in any sporting event that they participated in.
In Bettie’s words, “God blessed her with a very good fulfilling life with lots of love and attention from her family and friends.”
She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Services were 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home with Wesley Wallace and Jim Root officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Brad Cole, Jeff Talbott, Spencer Talbott, Travis Root, Bobby Moncrief and Dewayne Moncrief.
