With the bad hitting, it just seemed very easy to point a finger at hitting coaches Mabry and Mueller. These were the guys whose whole jobs were to improve the Cardinals' batting, and numerous Cardinals were/are batting badly. With the defense, it's harder to just point a finger at one person.

By the end of the sixth inning, the Cards' leadoff hitter had one of the finest offensive performances ever by a Cardinal against the archrival Cubs. Carpenter hit three home runs, became the first Cardinal ever to have five extra-base hits in a game, and drove home seven runs.

Although rules vary by state and even in counties within that state, a couple wanting to be married MUST show up with a valid license to make their marriage legal with a ceremony. Missouri's recently signed law changes minimum ages.

Mike Shildt has been asked to prioritize cleaning up the Cardinals' disappointing defense and baserunning. Playing Kolten Wong helps both of those goals. Shildt even hit Wong sixth in his first game making the lineup, because he wanted his speed and lefthanded swing mixing up a righthanded-heavy bunch.

Terry Kennedy received the Rory Ellinger Legislative Award from Legal Services of Eastern Missouri. He represents the 18th Ward on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, where he recently sponsored Board Bill #87, the Lock-Out Ordinance, which was passed as law. The ordinance mandates that landlords obtain court orders for an eviction order against a tenant and criminalizes evictions without a legal order.

(Updated) Mike Shildt will finish this season as manager, John Mozeliak told the Post-Dispatch. 'Due diligence' for a managerial search will go on during the season, but the Cardinals plan to do the actual search at the end of the season. Mark Budaska was promoted from the Memphis staff to be Cardinals hitting coach, and he'll be assisted by George Grier, a hitting coordinator in the minors.
