SCHOOL BOARD MEETS

The Houston board of education met Tuesday night.

The Houston board of education discussed its high school gymnasium project last week and took action on other items.

Members:

•Recognized the Houston Middle School student of the month, Tyler Kelly. Emily Young, Nola Smith, Devin Shelton and Katy Scheets also were recognized.

•Heard the January middle school students of the month nominees led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

•Adopted the 2020-2021 school calendar which calls for the school year to begin on Aug. 24, which is later due to a new Missouri law designed to start school later to trigger additional tourism opportunities. If all goes as planned, graduation is May 15 and the last day of the year is May 19.

•Approved a summer school schedule that runs June 1-25 on Mondays through Thursdays. The hours are 7:40 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with limited transportation and pickup points. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

•Heard Dr. Allen Moss recognize board members for their service.

The next regular meeting is 6:30 p.m. March 10 in the high school library.
