Michael Nugent had vowed to harm a man he is accused of murdering just 90 minutes earlier as he left the Texas County Jail on Oct. 10, according to court documents.

Nugent, 22, is charged in the first-degree murder of Crue D. Ridenoure, 30, of Willow Springs.

Nugent told associates he was irate that he’d been sent to the county  jail in Houston after someone led a county deputy on a chase on Oct. 9.  In reality, Nugent alleged Ridenoure did it and it wasn’t him.

A Mountain View man who bonded Nugent out at about 5:30 a.m. the day of the murder said the ride from Houston to Nugent’s Wallen Road residence was focused on one topic: Nugent saying he would get even with Ridenoure.

Shortly after 7 a.m., authorities received a distressing call from Highway W and Highway 17 in the Midvale community that a man was wounded on the east side of Highway W and a motorcycle had been seen earlier where two fought. According to court documents, Ridenoure told first responders and a passerby that Nugent shot him. Scattered around the scene were .45-caliber shell casing, two green cloth gloves, a black glove, a damaged black cellular telephone and blood. Ridenoure was pronounced dead at Texas County Memorial Hospital shooting.

Immediately, officers with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol began fanning out to find Nugent.

A brother told officers that Nugent’s entrance to his house came after he kicked open the front door and handed him a set of keys and told him to return the parked green Hyundai vehicle to a woman in the 20000 block of King Drive.

He added that he had “just shot a dude.” Officers said they found the motorcycle wrapped in insulation in the crawl space of the woman’s house.

It was that woman who told officers that Nugent’s behavior was strange when he borrowed the car. She had asked him if he was high and Nugent denied, saying he spent the previous evening in jail after being set up. He didn’t elaborate.

Later, Nugent was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol with a woman en route to friends in Mountain View. She confirmed that the suspect had told her while shaking badly and apologizing for a shooting he had wounded Ridenoure in the chest.

Texas County Sheriff Scott Lindsey said Nugent is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use a weapon. He is held without bond. The investigation continues.

Services for Ridenoure were Monday at Yarber Mortuary in Willow Springs.
