The City of Houston wrapped up a grant  application that could partially fund a new swimming pool at West Side Park.

Elaine Campbell, a grant writer for the city, said initial paperwork was submitted Feb. 14 for a $250,000 grant, and the city has since been asked to submit an environmental review and additional paperwork. The total cost of the project is about $1.18 million.

In the application, the city accepting funding, if approved, is contingent on three factors:

•Fully funded if a sales tax issue passes in April.

•Possible funding over three fiscal budget years with the first year seeing removal of a children’s pool; second year, adding zero entry to pool; and third year, adding activities and features to the pool.

•Rejecting or accepting the grant, if approved, determined by the city council and a new city administrator.
