A teenager died and another is serious following a crash Friday night at Licking.

An Amish teenager died Friday night from injuries sustained when a truck struck a horse-drawn buggy north of Licking.

Dead is Amos H. Girod, 14, of Licking, who died at about 8 p.m. at Cox South in Springfield. He was operating the buggy on Highway C at about 5 p.m.

Amos and Lizzie Girod, 12, were both flown by medical helicopter to Springfield. She is listed in serious condition. A third person, Sara H. Girod, 14, had minor injuries and was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital.

Sgt. George Falterman said a southbound 1995 Ford F-150 driven by Ryan E. Reddy, 30, of Licking, hit the southbound buggy from behind about one-tenth of a mile north of the city. Reddy was not injured, Falterman said.

Assisting at the scene were Tpr. Myron Downing, the Licking Fire Department and Texas County Sheriff’s Department.

It’s the second collision involving a buggy since the end of August.
