INVESTIGATIONS

Authorities are investigating several crimes in the county.

The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•Fred J. Laux, 23, of 1130 Dewey St. in Houston, was issued a citation for peace disturbance – excessive noise – on June 25.

A deputy was dispatched at about 3:45 a.m. regarding a noise complaint at a Piney Drive residence at Bucyrus. After an investigation Laux was identified as the suspect and subsequently cited.

•A deputy responded on May 31 to a report of a shed stolen from a Kitchem Drive residence at Licking.

A woman told the officer the property was her mother’s and a neighbor had told her another neighbor had swiped one of three sheds at the location. The officer went to their property and observed all three sheds were there.

The woman said nobody had been to the property in years and she was just going by what she had been told.

•On May 31, a 63-year-old Elk Creek woman reported vandalism at her Highway H residence at Elk Creek.

The woman stated she had gone to open some back windows and observed what looked like bullet holes in them.

An investigating deputy observed small marks on the side of the trailer and several holes in a window screen, but there was no evidence of a pattern indicating they came from a firearm.

The officer discovered the woman had mowed behind the residence where there was a lot of gravel, and determined the damage was likely done by flying rocks.

•A 58-year-old Houston man reported on June 8 that a  gun had been stolen from his Morton Road residence.

The man told an investigating deputy that he believed the Glock 9-millimeter pistol had been swiped by his 57-year-old former girlfriend or one of her grandsons (ages 23 and 18). He stated the suspect or suspects also stole a pair of Oakley sunglasses and some flashlights.

Investigation continues.

•A 78-year-old Willow Springs woman reported on May 31 that a truck wheel and tire with a total value of $750 had been stolen from her Varvel Road residence. There are no suspects.

•A Houston man of unreported age reported on June 4 that he and his 39-year-old wife had about a week earlier been run off the road at Highways 17 and 137 at Raymondville by a man and woman who had been sending them threatening text messages.

The man told an investigating officer that if the male suspect showed up at his residence, he would shoot him. He stated that his wife had left him for a while, and during that time he dated the woman who was in the car that ran him off the road. He said he and his wife are back together, and the male suspect is not happy about that, even though he, too, is married.

•A 54-year-old Plato man reported on June 5 that numerous items with a total value of $16,800 had been stolen from his Baldridge Road residence.

The man told an investigating deputy that while he was incarcerated in the county jail, his 30-year-old stepson (a Winona resident) had swiped a pickup truck, multiple boats and many other items. The man said photos were posted on the suspect’s Facebook page showing him committing the crime.

Investigation continues.

•A deputy was dispatched at about 12:30 p.m. May 7 regarding a report of a civil dispute at a Piney Drive residence at Bucyrus.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with Jacob Higginbotham, 27, of 15300 N. Piney Dr. at Bucyrus, who had an active Texas County warrant of unreported nature. He was arrested and taken to the Texas County Jail.

•A deputy was dispatched May 8 regarding a report of theft at a Shipp Drive residence at Licking. A 60-year-old Licking man there told the officer a man had swiped a trailer full of tools and that it would take him a day or so to make a list of the missing property.

The man reportedly called the next day and said all of the goods were returned during the night and he didn’t know who took them and didn’t want to pursue charges.
