A Bucyrus man faces a pair of felony charges after an alleged assault during a custody exchange Sunday west of Houston.
The Texas County Sheriff’s Department said Colt E. Shelton, 31, of 15290 Hoth Road, is charged with second-degree domestic assault and second-degree kidnapping (both class D felonies). He is held on $250,000 bond.
Sheriff Scott Lindsey said his deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Highway 17 near Highway Z. During an investigation, a woman e told officers an argument developed during a custody exchange and a man – later identified as Shelton – removed the key from the ignition of the vehicle she was operating to prevent her from leaving.
Lindsey said a physical altercation occurred as the woman attempted to retrieve the key, and she stated Shelton grabbed her by the throat.
Shelton was arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail, and later charged by assistant county prosecutor Jason MacPherson. Lindsey said the kidnapping charge stemmed from “restraining another unlawfully without consent as to interfere substantially with their liberty exposing a person to risk of serious physical injury.”
