Houston faced a big early deficit. But the Tigers wiped impressively wiped it away.
After falling behind 5-0 in the top of the first inning, HHS scored 13 of the final 14 runs Monday to rally past Hartville 13-6.
The Tigers (9-11) did their biggest damage in the fifth and sixth innings by scoring five runs apiece in the frames. The win snapped a four-game losing skid.
Whitley Welch led Houston’s 16-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Five players –– Kyle Wilson, Stetson Welch, Tyler Burris, Gavin Alston and Tanner Carter –– had two hits apiece.
Carter had a double and knocked in three runs. Whitley Welch stole four bases.
Senior Nathan Poynter struck out seven in the complete-game victory. He gave up seven hits and three earned runs.
Last Thursday, Houston managed just two hits in a 13-1 five-inning loss at Licking.
Poynter, who tripled, and Whitley Welch had the Tigers’ lone hits. Wilson had a sacrifice fly.
Stetson Welch allowed 15 hits and 12 earned runs in four innings. He walked three.
