A teenager from Licking was killed Friday morning in an accident as another winter storm hit the area. Texas County is under a winter weather advisory until noon Saturday.
Dead is Charity M. Adams, 16, who was pronounced dead at the scene about 12 miles south of Rolla on U.S. 63 by Phelps County Assistant Coroner Lenox Jones, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
Patrolmen said a northbound 1992 Ford Taurus driven by Machaira M. Adams, 20, lost control on ice-covered roadway. The vehicle ran off the right side of the highway and struck a guardrail before overturning, said Sgt. Eric Volkmer.
The driver and a passenger, Abigail H. Adams, 18, also of Licking, were taken with minor injuries to Phelps County Regional Medical Center at Rolla following the 9:35 a.m. wreck. Everyone was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
A Licking man was injured Friday morning in a Pulaski County crash on Highway 17 just north of Crocker.
Sgt. M.W. Jones said a northbound 2005 Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by Danny R. Howell, 44, was attempting to avoid a stopped vehicle in the roadway, ran off the highway and struck several trees at about 8:40 a.m.
Howell, whose vehicle was totaled, was taken to a Fort Leonard Wood hospital with minor injuries. Jones said the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
Two persons were injured at noon Friday in a Texas County accident caused by slick roads, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
Tpr. Myron Downey said a 2003 Ford Explorer driven north of Hidden Valley Road by Diana K. Edeington, 55, of Mountain Grove, lost control on ice, ran off the road and overturned about two miles south of Mountain Grove.
Two passengers, Chance J. Howard, 24; and Terry A. Mings, 55, both of Mountain Grove, received minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was totaled. Everyone was wearing a seat belt, Downey said.
A rollover accident — with no injuries earlier in the day — was reported on Highway M in western Texas County.
Snow is expected to come to an end this morning. Patchy drizzle will follow — with temperatures remaining around the freezing mark. Major highways are in good traveling condition, MoDOT reports.
