Members of the Houston City Council studied two ordinances, approved not changing its fluoridation policy and heard an update on its push to clean up properties during a meeting Monday

The council voted 4-2 to keep its long-standing policy of adding fluoridation to the city’s water supply Council members David Arthur and Viki Narancich voted no.

In other matters, members:

• Will review an updated Houston Memorial Airport lease agreement for hangars at its Aug. 1 meeting.

• Will consider an ordinance Aug. 1 that would allow the Houston Police Department to join a database that requires pawn shops to enter items purchased that can be accessed by officers as part of theft investigations. Police Chief Tim Ceplina said Cabool and Licking also have expressed an interest in the program.

• Heard an update on plans to demolish the former Fine Arts Building on the Houston School District campus. Gator Industrial LLC of Joplin has been in Houston and visited with the city about its plans. The firm won a $90,000 bid last month. The debris will be taken to a Hartville landfill.

• Learned that one house has been destroyed on Chestnut street as part of the city’s campaign to rid neighborhoods of eyesores. Next door, a house destroyed by fire, also is coming down.
