Three persons were seriously injured late Wednesday morning west of Houston in a head-on crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

A southbound vehicle driven by Christi L. Gabel, 38, of Bucyrus, crossed the centerline and struck head-on a pickup operated by Emit K. Ward, 78, of Bucyrus, said Sgt. Dewayne Gale of the patrol. Ward and passenger, Marie E. Ward, 76, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital. She was transported to TCMH and later airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Gabel was taken to TCMH and also airlifted to St. John's.

The Texas County Rescue Squad was among emergency personnel on the scene about three miles west of Houston on Highway 17. The patrol said the wreck remains under investigation.
