Authorities: Stealing Political Signs Can Bring Charges
Texas County authorities say the theft of political signs is a crime.
Some are disappearing, including one that prompting the issuance of a reward on Monday.
Missouri statute says it is illegal to "...steal, willfully deface, mutilate or destroy any campaign yard sign on private property." A conviction is punishable by a fine of up to $2,500, up to a year in jail or a combination of both.
"Hopefully everyone can respect the democratic process and the candidate's right to put out their signs," Prosecutor Mike Anderson warned in July before the August Primary.
A large Obama-Biden sign disappeared last week at Licking. The loss of the sign and metalwork is estimated at $200.
A police report was filed, and Democrats are offering a reward. Persons with information can call the Democrat headquarters at 417-967-0334.
